Dr. Samuel George Hansdak is presently working as a teaching faculty in the department of Internal Medicine in Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. He is a graduate and postgraduate from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. As a part of his interest in Lifestyle medicine, he was awarded Senior Training Fellowship for 12 weeks in 2009. He spent this time visiting and observing the principles and practice of lifestyle medicine in various lifestyle centers in North America including Loma Linda, PMRI, Tuft’s university, Weimar, Wildwood, Uchee Pines and Hartland. He formed a Lifestyle Medicine team in collaboration with the department of Dietary, Physiotherapy, Medical Sociology, Psychiatry, Hospital Chaplaincy, Community Health, Physiology, Dermatology and Internal Medicine. The vision of the department of Lifestyle Medicine is to provide services, training and conduct research in the principles of lifestyle medicine. Presently, the department runs a Wellness Clinic in the hospital campus and a Diabetic lifestyle outreach clinic in Chitoor campus. The department provides training to the undergraduates & post-graduates of medical, nursing and allied health science students. The students and faculties are also involved in conducting scientific research in the role of lifestyle medicine in various diseases. The department is also involved in training the general practitioners and family physicians in the principles and practice of lifestyle medicine through distance education. The team is currently developing a School Health model of training teachers as health coaches in schools. He is also a pioneering and founding member in the formation of the Asian Society of Lifestyle Medicine.
